Biographical Statement

Ruth Margaret Hoisington was born January 6, 1916 in Illinois to Raymond and Faye (Steele) Hoisington. She attended Rockford Senior High School and was elected to the National Honor Society. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1937 with a B.A. degree in Literature. She was a member of the Boethallian Literary Society, Pi Kappa Delta, Debate Union and Women's Athletic Association (W.A.A.). She dormed at Williston Hall on campus. Following graduation she worked at the Rockford Library until 1940 when she married Burton Myers and moved to Chicago. In 1943 their family moved to Brookfield, IL and raised four young children. During their time in Brookfield, one daughter, Nancy died. The family moved to Wheaton in 1951 where they attended Wheaton Bible Church and Ruth worked as a clerk in the College Post Office. In August 1975 their son, Bruce was killed in a train accident in Wheaton. That September she and Burt retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas after working 15 years at Wheaton College. In 1989 they moved to Go Ye Village a christian retirement community in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She died on December 8, 2007 and was survived by a son and daughter.

Scope and Contents The Ruth Myers scrapbook measures 10.5" x 15.5". The cover is checkered with red and black lines, with the word "Scraps" printed above the image of two cats. On one cat is written, "Ruth Hoisington," and on the other, "1933-1934, 1934-1935." The interior is inscribed, "Donated by Ruth Hoisington Myers in 1973." The pages are yellow and brittle, fragmenting with age. The book primarily deals with her years at Wheaton College, and features paste-ins of invitations, cards, an enrollment...
