Biographical Statement

Helen Mary Sayers (nicknamed “Nellie” and maiden name “Leigh”) was married to Rev. Henry Sayers (1852-1928) on August 9, 1892. Nell was age 37 and Henry was 40 years old at the time of their marriage. Dorothy Leigh Sayers was born on June 13, 1893, and was the only child of Henry and Nell. Dorothy had a number of aunts and uncles on both sides of the family, and grew especially close to her cousin, Ivy Shrimpton. Dorothy L. Sayers’s father Henry died on September 20, 1928, and her mother on July 27, 1929. She married Atherton (Oswold Arthur, “Mac”) Fleming in April 1926.
