Biographical Statement

Ms. Mary Ruth Howes (born, ca. 1931) graduated from Wheaton College in 1953 with a B.A. in Literature and in 1957 with an M.A. in Bible Literature. She retired in 1996 as a freelance editor after an almost 40 year career in publishing. She worked with Guideposts Books in New York City and Abingdon Press in Nashville, among others. She is a lay leader in the Methodist Church and participated in an archaeological dig at Tel Zeitah in Israel, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1999. She currently resides in Penney Farms, FL.

Scope and Contents The three Mary Ruth Howes ('53) scrapbooks contain clippings, memorabilia and campus-related programs. The first is an 11 x 14 white covered album, bound with gold cord with Wheaton College and the college seal in blue felt lettering. It covers the 1949-1950 academic year and includes athletic programs and clippings of the 1950 Revival, and groundbreaking for the Nicholas Library and Memorial Student Center.
