Biographical Statement

Dr. David R. Mains graduated from Wheaton College in 1958 with a B.A. in History. He was director of The Chapel Ministries in Wheaton, Illinois from 1977-1998. For over 20 years his primary ministry voice was host of the "Chapel of the Air" syndicated radio broadcast, a 15-minute radio broadcast heard more than 500 times daily each Monday through Saturday on approximately 185 radio outlets throughout North America. Chapel of the Air was also home of the annual 50-Day Spiritual Adventure. In 1993 he launched the "You Need to Know" daily television program, which was named the 1995 Program of the Year by the National Religious Broadcasters. Dr. Mains' pioneering work in church renewal also includes ten years as senior pastor of Circle Church in Chicago (1967-1977). He received an honorary doctorate from Indiana Wesleyan University. His numerous books include two Gold Medallion winners, "Tales of the Kingdom" and "Tales of the Resistance," which he coauthored with his wife, Karen. He formed Mainstay Church Resources to provide spiritual growth tools for the local church, which eventually was used by 15,000 churches and millions of laypeople. He also developed the Mainstay Model, a sermon preparation tool to radically transform the effectiveness of preaching and created Sermon-Coach.com, a sermon and worship service website to provide tools for local pastors. The Mains' currently reside in West Chicago, IL.
