Biographical Statement

Rev. Dr. David R. Mains, born in 1936, graduated from Wheaton College in 1958 with a B.A. in History. He has been director of The Chapel of the Air Ministries since 1977. From 1967 to 1977, he served as senior pastor of Circle Church in Chicago. From 1977 to 1998, his broadcast "The Chapel of the Air" was heard daily on over 500 radio stations across North America. In 1993 he launched the TV program "You Need to Know," which in 1995 won the National Religious Broadcasters' “Television Program of the Year” award. In 1988, he received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Roberts Wesleyan College. He formed Mainstay Church Resources to provide spiritual-growth tools for churches; his "50-Day Spiritual Adventures" were used by some 50,000 churches and more than 5 million people. He also developed the Mainstay Model, a sermon-preparation tool to radically transform the effectiveness of preaching. His numerous books include the Gold Medallion Award-winning "Tales of the Kingdom" trilogy, which he co-authored with his wife, Karen. David and Karen currently reside in West Chicago, IL. Through The Chapel of the Air Ministries, they continue to create new ministry content, including online materials, books, and most recently, "Before We Go," a weekly podcast.
