Biographical Statement

Sarah Katherine Smith, class of 1900, was the daughter of Professor George H. Smith who taught Latin and Greek at the College from 1899-1936. Sarah attended Wheaton Academy, graduating in 1896 and Wheaton College where she studied with the founder of the Art Department, Mrs. S.H. Nutting. Following her graduation from the Chicago Art Institute and work at an artist's colony in Italy, she served as Principal of the Art Department at the College from 1905-08. Her work won numerous awards and appeared in such publications as Outlook and Harper's.
