Petrine Christine married in 1876 and migrated to the US in 1883 with her two children and her mother, following the death of her husband and one of her children. They settled in Racine and Trine invested money in the business of her brother, Laurids, who had come fifteen years earlier. When she later wanted to withdraw her investment as they had agreed, Laurids refused, claiming that it was lost. The disagreement between them was such that Trine almost took her life. She eventually remarried and life got better, but the two siblings never truly got over their bitter relationship. (Length 11:42)
