Biographical or Historical Information

The research and organization of the materials in this collection was carried out by Maggie Noll in 2012 and 2013 with the resources of the Hesburgh Library at the University of Notre Dame. She assembled the material in order to help her husband, Mark Noll, who had been asked by Dr. Christopher Mitchell, former Wade Center Director, to prepare a lecture for a conference to mark the 50th anniversary of C.S. Lewis's death in 2013. The audio recordings from this conference are linked in the "Related Materials" section.

Mark Noll put this material to use in preparing a talk for that conference which was later published as "C.S. Lewis in America, 1933-1943" in the volume The Undiscovered Lewis: Essays in Memory of Christopher W. Mitchell. Noll's 2022 Hansen lectureship series and the resultant book, C.S. Lewis in America (Downers Grove, IL: IVP Academic, 2023), represent a considerable expansion and largely new treatment of Maggie's research.
