Biographical or Historical Information

Dorothy L. Sayers first met Muriel St. Clare Byrne while attending Somerville College at Oxford University, and the two became lifelong friends. Dorothy frequently shared unpublished work with Muriel for feedback and advice, and in 1935 they collaborated on a dramatization of the Lord Peter Wimsey story, Busman’s Honeymoon. The production opened on the London stage in December 1936, and was first published as a play version in 1937. The story was subsequently expanded into a novel by Sayers and published in 1939.
