Biographical or Historical Information

Dorothy L. is a biographical one-woman play written by Catherine Kenny about Dorothy L. Sayers. It was first presented at the Old Fire Station Theatre, Oxford from January 10-14, 1995 as Dorothy L.: A Matter of Life and Death. Ian Woodridge directed and Sheila Mitchell performed and produced the performances. On February 26, 1996, this play was performed as Dorothy L.: A Dramatic Portrait of Dorothy L. Sayers by Sheila Mitchell as a benefit for the Marion E. Wade Center at Barrows Auditorium, Wheaton College. The Wade Center performance was followed by a talk by H.R.F. Keating, noted author and president of London's Detection Club.

Catherine Kenney taught for many years at Mundelein College as professor of English. She has given many seminars on Dorothy L. Sayers, and has written The Remarkable Case of Dorothy L. Sayers. She is a recipient of the Clyde Kilby Research Grant. She generously designated the Wheaton performance as a benefit to support the Endowment Fund for VII: Journal of the Marion E. Wade Center. Catherine Kenney lives in the Chicago area.

Sheila Mitchell has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Prospect at the Old Vic, and West End, and with many provincial repertory groups. She has also appeared in various television dramas, including All Creatures Great and Small, Jeeves and Wooster, and A Mind to Murder. She lives with her husband, H.R.F. Keating, in London.

H.R.F. Keating is the President of the Detection Club, London, and the award winning author of many novels, including the series featuring Inspector Ghote.
