Anne Ridler Collection

The Anne Ridler Collection consists of seven series.

The Artwork series contains cover art by Lynton Lamb for Three Plays by Charles Williams, as well as various pieces by Anne Spalding. The Charles Williams Society series includes Newsletters from the Society, correspondence, and other related documents from Society work. The Correspondence series contains letters with Ridler and others relating to Charles Williams, including Williams’s wife, Michal.

The Miscellanea series includes some original envelopes found in the collection, a book on reading tarot cards, Charles Williams’s deck of tarot cards, and other documents. A notebook and various other notes documents by Ridler are stored in the Notes series. The last two series contain Publications and Unpublished Materials about Charles Williams by Anne Ridler and others, including photographs.

An original listing of the materials by Grevel Lindop as they were arranged before coming to the Wade Center is stored in the acquisition file and can be produced upon request.

The Anne Ridler Collection contains correspondence and other documents relating to the life and work of Anne Ridler, poetess, playwright, and editor. Materials in the collection are primarily focused on Charles Williams.

Biographical or Historical Information

According to the seller of the collection, these materials belonged to Anne Ridler and were passed down to Anne Ridler’s daughter before arriving at the Wade Center in 2013.
