The Articles & Publications series contains articles, book excerpts, corrected proofs for Thomas Wingfold, Curate by George MacDonald, and two books (noted below). The Correspondence series contains letters from Arthur Hughes, correspondence relating to Sadler’s research on Hughes, and letters to Sadler including those from Clyde Kilby, Warren Lewis, C.S. Lewis, Florence (Michal) Williams, and Owen Barfield. The Illustrations & Listings series includes reproductions of art by Arthur Hughes, including photographs, and library / archival collection listings of related Hughes materials.

The materials in this archive were deposited at the Wade Center by Glenn Sadler in March 2015, and include publications, correspondence, illustrations, and other items relating to Sadler’s research on the artist, Arthur Hughes (1832-1915). Hughes was an English illustrator and painter who provided illustrations for many of the published works of George MacDonald.
