Scope and Contents
This archive contains the will and codicil of Owen Barfield, the manuscript of Barfield’s novel Eager Spring, articles and lectures, correspondence between Barfield, Tennyson, and others, and photographs. All materials are from the personal papers of G.B. Tennyson. These materials are photocopied from the originals which are stored in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, England.

Biographical or Historical Information
Georg Bernhard Tennyson (1930-2007) served as a joint-literary executor for the estate of Owen Barfield. He was emeritus professor of English at UCLA, an eminent scholar of the writings of Thomas Carlyle, and for many years the editor of the scholarly journal Nineteenth-Century Literature.
This archive was sent to the Wade Center by Tennyson's daughter after the house fire which claimed the life of Tennyson and partially damaged the items in the archive. The contents have been cleaned of soot, photocopied, and the originals were sent to the Bodleian Library, Oxford, England in July 2008; Bodleian shelfmarks: Dep. c. 1261-5.
Folders 17-27 were formerly restricted, but are now publicly available.
