Content Description

Miscellaneous ephemera collected by Frank Kollinger relating to the murder of Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Peter Fleming, Roger Youderian, and Ed McCully in January 1956 and other related items. Accession includes the following: • Recording in English, Spanish, Wao, and Quichua of a testimony recorded by Kollinger from a Waorani man named Tonae, a Christian convert who was later killed by the Waorani when attempting to evangelize the tribe, 1965. Cassette and CD copies. • Two photographs of Waorani Indians who attended a Quichua conference in 1965/1965. Black & white. • Five sheets of postal stamps issued by the Ecuadorian government in 1965, featuring the five fallen missionaries. • Various tracts and prayer cards about the five missionaries and associates. • Photocopy of typed manuscript entitled “The Palm Beach Story, according to Minkayi, one of the killers,” 1961. • Typed transcription in Quichua of a recording taken by Wilfred Tidmarsh narrated by Cesar Aguinda), one of the Quichua men who led the first search party for the missing missionaries, undated. Also includes a translated English version created by Frank and Martha Kollinger. • Ethnological Notes collected by Tidmarsh, undated • Notes on Waorani family trees • Copy of Tidmarsh’s ethnological notes on the Waorani by Rachel Saint, undated. • Notes and charts on Wao orthography, 1960, undated (possibly by Rachel Saint) • Two versions of story by Gikita, a Waorani man, transcribed by Elisabeth Elliot, May 16, 1961 • Copy of Life Magazine from January 1956 and May 1957, featuring the “Auca Incident.” • Unbound notebook featuring Elisabeth Elliot’s notes on first meeting with Waorani woman on November 13, 1957, diary entries, linguistics notes, and traced foot and handprint of the two Waorani women who first met Elisabeth (the notebook was found by Frank Kollinger in the attic of the Shandia station where he was director, circa 1960).
