Materials relating to the life and ministry of Peruvian missiologist and theologian Samuel Escobar. Materials contain correspondence, photographs, manuscripts, research files, syllabi and lectures, speeches and presentations, books and serials from Escobar's private library. Topics covered include: the development of evangelicalism in Latin America; relations between evangelicals and the Roman Catholic Church; liberation theology; seminary education for Latin America students; the development of a distinctly Latin American Christology; and the history and role of Protestant missions in Latin America. Organizations and individuals with whom Escobar worked or interacted include: the Lausanne Movement; International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES); InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF); Congreso Latinoamericano de Evangelizacion (CLADE); Fraternidad Teológica Latinoamericana (FTL); Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary; John Stott; C. René Padilla; Orlando Costas, Tito Parades; Paulo Freire; John MacKay, among others. The collection includes materials in both English and Spanish and approximately cover the years 1960-2023.
