 File — Box: 1, Folder: 4
Identifier: Folder 4

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection contains one hundred completed questionnaires from a survey created by Aubrey Leon Morris and administered between August and December 1963 to parcipants at the 1962 Greater Chicago Crusade. The survey was used as part of Morris's PhD research, resulting in his doctoral dissertation, "A Study of Psychological Factors in the Evangelistic Preaching of Billy Graham." His degree was awarded by Southern Baptist Seminary in 1966.

The survey was designed for those who responded to Billy Graham's invitation for salvation during the crusade. The "Interview Guide for Responders" (title of questionnaire) is a four-page interview sheet containing nine major questions with enough space provided for answers to the questions. The questions related to the kind of appeal that made an impression leading to a decision after listening to a sermon by Billy Graham; personal needs; pre-decision experiences; changes if any in life and thought; and church affiliation.

Demographic questions include: name; address; phone; age; marital status; occupation; education; church and pastor preferences. The answers were written onto the questionnaires by Morris as he talked to the interviewees. More information can be found in BGC Archives Collection 20: Papers of Herbert J. Taylor, Box 37, Folder 16.
