Missionary; born in Scotland, 1795; pioneer missionary in South Africa; sent to South Africa by the London Missionary Society, 1816; completed translation of New Testament (1840) and Old Testament (1857) into Bechuana language; father-in-law of David Livingstone; died 1883.
