Summary Note

Kenneth tells how he asked Margaret to marry him back in 1924. Kenneth was working at a restaurant and was saving money to buy an engagement ring for Margaret. He bought an expensive ring, but the problem was that Margaret didn't seem to want to be engaged, so Kenneth stuck the ring on her finger. They went home to tell Margaret's parent, and her father told Kenneth that he had been praying for him since the day Margaret was born. Margaret's mother was concerned that Kenneth was an overworker like her father, who eventually died of hard work at fifty. Margaret remarks that the two men were of very different temperaments.
