Summary Note

Years passed and there was a renewed interest in Margaret's work. Gertrude Lawrence was interested in playing the role of Anna in the movie that was to be made from Margaret's book. Gertrude Lawrence made an announcement that she was going to do Anna and that she had chosen Rodgers and Hammerstein to do the play. The negotiations went on for a long time, and the Rodgers and Hammerstein agency signed the contract, disregarded Margaret's specifications, and so there was a really serious loss in the contract: it cut Margaret out of any movie rights. And there were other losses. The agency profited, although Margaret profited too. (Length 15:34)
