Vida Chenoweth Papers
Scope and Contents
The Vida Chenoweth Collection is composed of biographical, news clippings, media, and published material from this world renowned concert marimbist and ethnomusicologist dating from 1950s to 1980s. Photographs and accompanying press scrapbooks document the classical marimbist's rising international acclaim during the late 1950s and 1960s. There are early reel-to-reel audio recordings of Chenoweth's family performances, as well as, media during the height of her solo career. Published materials and book reviews document Chenoweth's transition into ethnomusicology in Papau New Guinea during the 1970s to the present. A sizable donation of unprocessed media material was received in 2007 after Chenoweth was honored by the Library of Congress.
