The May Harshbarger material comprises a single composition book, containing handwritten essays and exercises. Her prose is marked with occasional marginal corrections. Tucked into the front are three "Rolls of Honor" and a "Certificate of Examination" from St. Mary's School of Knoxville, IL. These documents date from 1877, '78 and '79. Nellie Straw Scrapbook

The Nellie Straw (1904) scrapbook is composed of stiff black construction paper, now completely dis-attached from its binding. The "scraps" are glued directly onto the cover, and filling every page for the remainder of the book.
