Biographical or Historical Information
The Mind of the Maker was intended to be the first book in a series called “Bridgeheads,” to be edited by Dorothy L. Sayers, Helen Simpson, and Muriel St. Clare Byrne. Bridgeheads was designed to explore social, moral, and theological subjects which would foster the thought and spirit of rebuilding society after WWII. The intention of the project was to incorporate contributions from various authors, but only a few of the proposed works ever made it to publication and the series never came to fruition. In The Mind of the Maker, Sayers focuses on human creativity and her understanding of the threefold experience of creation as a reflection of the doctrine of the Trinity. The book was first published in London by Methuen in 1941.
The material in this archive was acquired at auction from Sotheby’s in London by the Wade Center in 2000. The original Sotheby’s lot(s) included in this archive are: Lot 291, i-v. Lot 291, iv included the books in the separated materials listing.
