Scope and Contents
Oral history interviews with Leonard Hendrik F. Sumule in which he describes his family, childhood in Indonesia, conversion and spiritual development, being a Christian in a predominantly Muslim nation, his experience at Wheaton College's Honey Rock Camp, comparison of Honey Rock with Christian camps in Indonesia, the 1995 revival at Wheaton College, his goals for ministry in Indonesia, involvement in youth ministry, camping and Christian education in the country, and education and church involvement while at the Wheaton College Graduate School. The time period covered by the interviews is ca. 1945 to 1996.
Leonard Sumule was interviewed by Paul Ericksen on October 25 and November 3, 1995, and June 27, 1996 at the Billy Graham Center Archives at Wheaton College.

Biographical Information
Full Name: Leonard Hendrik E. Sumule
Birth: August 9, 1967, in Paniai, Irian Jaya, Indonesia; grew up in Nabire on the northern coast of Irian Jaya, to parents from Indonesia's Toraja tribe.
Family:
Parents: Both public school teachers
Siblings: Sumule is the fifth of eight children (three sisters, four brothers)
Marital Status: Married to Stephanie
Children: Nathalie, Naomi
Conversion: Age eight (approximately 1975)
Education:
1971-1983 - Grammar school and junior high school in Nabire, Irian Jaya
1983-1986 - Junior and senior high school in Sorong, Irian Jaya
1986-1991 - Jaffray Theological College, majored in Christian Education and graduated with Bachelors of Religious Education
1993-1996 - Wheaton College Graduate School, graduated with M.A. in Educational Ministries
Career:
1990-1993 - Working in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, with young people of the Gereja Kemah Injil Indonesia (the Christian and Missionary Alliance affiliate), including youth evangelism, preaching, teaching and training Bible study leaders
1996-2006 - Taught in Youth Ministry program at Tenggarong Bible College; also was head of the program (1998-2006) and national head of C&MA's Indonesian youth ministry (2001-2006); discontinued to resume education in Biola University's Ph D program in the School of Intercultural Studies
Other Significant Information:
1984 - During his church's Spiritual Emphasis Week in Sorong, he felt called to become a full-time Christian worker.
